Gen Y Comes With High Speed PSCU Financial Services Launches Web Site to Educate Credit Unions on How to Market to Gen Y

Web Site Has the ‘Edgy’ Look Preferred by Young Adults

St. Petersburg, FL, November 28, 2007 – In conjunction with its commitment to help credit unions attract Gen Y members, PSCU Financial Services has launched a new educational web site. ProjectNewAge.com is a learning center for the “dos and don’ts” of marketing to Gen Y and provides information on this generation’s unique lifestyles, media consumption habits and brand and media preferences. The web site is part of the cooperative’s New Age Program, which is designed to build a successful future for the credit union industry by earning the interest and loyalty of this powerful generation of young adults.

The web site has the fun and ‘edgy’ look preferred by Gen Y and contains a media player where you can see the popular video, Bankerpranker, a spoof on bankers and the “tricks” they play. The site also provides outbound links to popular blogs and other social media web sites focused on marketing to Gen Y and the media tools that work best for this audience. For example, the web site will provide descriptions of how Gen Y use blogs, social networks, video sharing and viral communications to share information and develop affinities with financial institutions and other companies. In addition, the site also features products and services that specifically appeal to and address the needs of Gen Y including: online bill pay, gift and reloadable prepaid cards, online account enrollment, and digital plastics with customized graphics.

As the nation’s largest CUSO, PSCU Financial Services has developed large scale initiative aimed at wooing Gen Y on their own terms. Project New Age is an educational program complete with marketing and advertising strategies that reach Gen Y and a product strategy that focuses on each stage of this generation’s journey to adulthood, beginning at age 12. In addition to this educational web site, the cooperative created a series of webinars to help credit unions learn how to communicate with this media-savvy but ad-weary generation.

“Our Project New Age program represents a significant investment in helping our member-owners build a strong membership base of young adults,” said David J. Serlo, President and CEO, PSCU Financial Services. “Studies indicate that in 10 years, this generation’s spending power will represent a larger opportunity than the Baby Boomers. Since these young adults develop brand and corporate affinities at a very early age, credit unions need to act now to develop long-term financial relationships.”
