California CU CEO Urges Credit Unions to Support 2009 Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run
“This annual run is extremely important for several reasons. This well-established event raises awareness for the credit union industry on Capitol Hill. It draws 12,000 runners including 4,800 credit union members and 600 influential legislators and staffers. It is also a major source of funding for Children’s Miracle Network, which credit unions have supported collectively and individually for years,” said John Pamer, CEO, Diablo Valley Federal Credit Union. He notes that West Coast credit unions are under-represented at the annual run. “This is not an East Coast event—it is a national event. I am urging credit unions in the West to support this event with runners, in addition to donations. This is a great opportunity to encourage your staff to get in shape while organizing fundraising efforts for Children’s Miracle Network.” Proceeds raised by each credit union are tracked and donated back to local children’s hospitals. Pamer adds that his credit union and others across the country have a longstanding commitment to CMN. Diablo Valley Credit Union sponsors a local golf tournament and participates in other local events to benefit CMN hospitals.
