PSCU Financial Services is Lead Partner for 2008 Credit Union Cherry Blossom RunCooperative Joins Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc., for National Event that Raises Money for Children’s Miracle NetworkSt. Petersburg, FL, December 3, 2007 – On behalf of America’s credit unions, PSCU Financial Services announced today that it is the lead partner for the 2008 Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run. PSCU Financial Services will work with Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc., to support the event, which will be held on April 6, 2008, in Washington, D.C. The event benefits Children’s Miracle Network’s (CMN) 170 children’s hospitals that treat more than 17 million children each year. The race has a long history and has been a major contributor to the Children’s Miracle Network for many years. As lead partner of the event, PSCU Financial Services helps ensure that race costs are minimized and that every additional donation can be contributed to the Children’s Miracle Network. Donations by sponsoring organizations, credit unions and runners are distributed to children’s hospitals across the country. Donations are tracked according to donor zip codes, so credit unions and their members can make donations to a local children’s hospital through this event. In 2007, the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Run raised money for hospitals in 19 states. The goal is to increase sponsorships from credit unions and achieve donations to hospitals in all 50 states. Last year, more than $828,000 was raised and organizers are aiming for $1 million in donations for the 2008 event, according to David J. Serlo, President and CEO, PSCU Financial Services. “We are a long-time contributor to Children’s Miracle Network and we want to encourage credit unions across the country to donate to CMN through this event and make a difference in their local communities.” Serlo added that the cooperative will work to create nationwide awareness and participation in this event. “As the nation’s largest CUSO and a cooperative organization with more than 500 credit union members, we have access to tremendous resources within the credit union industry. Last year, 123 credit unions contributed to this event. Our objective is to help make this a premier national credit union event and that means boosting the number of credit unions that contribute in 2008,” he said. The cooperative is also making it easy for member-owner credit unions to contribute by donating a portion of their interchange income. The annual run showcases the cooperative spirit within the credit union industry and the desire to give back to the community. “Our legacy and our future lies in our ability to work together—not just in terms of products and services but also to provide assistance to the needy in our communities. It is a great honor to participate in an industry that focuses on serving the community as well as the financial needs of its members,” added Serlo. “Participation in the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Run allows the credit union industry to demonstrate their focus on community service with influential decision-makers on Capitol Hill. As part of the run, more than 400 Capitol Hill staffers compete in an informal competition that further heightens excitement and awareness of this event,” said Juri Valdov, Chairman, Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc. PSCU Financial Services will provide its member credit unions with statement messaging, poster art, newsletter articles and other materials to help promote this event and generate donations from their members. Credit unions and members can begin making donations immediately at www.miracleday.org. Credit unions are also invited to send teams of runners or volunteers to assist with the event, adding to the financial support that is ultimately shared with the Children’s Miracle Network. Last year, 10,700 runners participated.
