Courage. Power. Passion
Carmen Voilleque, Leadership Consultant,

Randy Harrington, CEO, Extreme Arts & Sciences
Voilleque and Harrington encouraged credit union leaders to find ways to adapt to change so that they can be successful in the rapidly evolving financial services industry. Each staff member needs to believe in the organization’s plan for the future and believe in their ability to attain the results they are being asked to achieve. Through speaking and skits, the two emphasized the need for courage, power and passion.
Leadership requires having the courage to do the right thing even if it involves personal risk and to teach others by example. They noted that eras of rapid change require a greater need for courage by managers and executives.
Management teams need to exercise power by communicating clearly and by speaking with one unified voice. Power held is power wasted, whereas power shared is power used.Â
Passion is the element that drives courage and power within an organization. Managers and executives need to encourage passion within a credit union, funnel that passion to areas where it can have the greatest impact and make sure that the passion is authentic and therefore believable.
They urged attendees to make the default position one of action, not stagnation. Staff members must be encouraged to come up with new ways of doing business. The thing that is the most dangerous in this economy is to stay the same.
